Can you drive while CBD is in your system? As the CBD industry continues to grow, uninformed speculation drives many misconceptions. One of which, is that an individual cannot drive or operate machinery while CBD is in their system. This is FALSE. You are legally allowed to drive while using CBD.

Can I Drive While Using CBD Oil?

Long story short, yes, it is considered safe to drive while using CBD oil as long as you don’t partake in too much CBD as it can make your drowsy.

However, there are specifications. The CBD must be hemp-derived and contain less than 0.3% THC. This is because THC is another cannabinoid which, similar to CBD, is naturally found in marijuana. THC has alternative effects associated with motor coordination, reaction time, and depth perception. Due to the regulations surrounding THC it is important to understand why only 0.3% is allowed to be in federally approved CBD products and safe to drive while CBD is in your system.

Aren’t there CBD products with THC?

Yes, full spectrum hemp-derived product CBD products contain trace amounts of THC. However, it is not above the 0.3% threshold and is not enough to cause intoxicating effects that cause you to not be able to drive while using CBD in your system. CBD has even been known to neutralize some of the THC effects.

Reasoning for this, is believed to be related to how CBD may bind to CB1 receptors in the brain, minimizing the activation of the CB1 receptor. This would make it difficult for the THC to bind, because the CBD has changed the general shape of the CB1 receptor. Without THC binding to the receptor, the intoxicating potential would be reduced.

The majority of hemp CBD products contain dramatic CBD to THC ratios, around 25:1. With these ratios, the CBD has high potential to overcome the intoxicating effects of THC and will effect your ability to drive while CBD is in your system.
