Are CBD and Hemp Oil The Same Thing?

With CBD oil almost constantly in the news these days, it is no wonder that people have begun to get curious about other Cannabis oil options like Delta-8, THC, and Hemp. At CBDOil.com, we are getting dozens of questions a day regarding these compounds, what they are used for, and how they are related to each other.

Among these Cannabis Oils, hemp oil is perhaps the most closely related to CBD in terms of legality and the fact that it doesn’t cause the same psychoactive effects found in other Cannabis compounds like THC (Delta-9) Delta-8. This superficial similarity between CBD and Hemp seed oil, and the fact they are both derived from Cannabis, means that many have begun to lump them together in terms of usage and dosage.

But is this accurate? Should Hemp oil and CBD oil be talked about so interchangeably? Or are these different compounds providing many different effects from one another?

In this piece, we will quickly go over the basics of Hemp Oil and CBD Oil and the differences between them. By the end, you should have a much better idea of which product is right for you.

What is Hemp Oil?

It would help if we first went over the product that fewer people will be familiar with, Hemp Oil. One of the reasons that this is confused so often is that Hemp Oil is a term that is sometimes incorrectly used to refer to CBD Oil. Both products come from Hemp, but CBD is derived from the leaves, flowers, and stalks of the plant, while Hemp Oil comes from the Cannabis sativa plant seeds. So if we are being clear in our terminology, we are comparing Hemp Seed Oil and CBD Oil. Hemp seed oil is made specifically from hemp seeds that have been cold-pressed, similar to how olive oil is made from olives.

Hemp Seed Oil has no THC and little to no CBD content.

Hemp seed oil is created to take advantage of the many nutrients it contains. Hemp Seed Oil is high in bioactive compounds, vitamins, and mega-6, and omega-3 fatty acids, proteins, fibers, and minerals. Hemp Seed Oil is more comparable to a food additive like fish oil or flaxseed oil and is commonplace in many health smoothies and other foods.

The nutrients and healthy fats found in Hemp Seed Oil have been linked to several health benefits, though these are through long-term usage in your diet.

How is Hemp Seed Oil Different From CBD Oil?

On the other hand, CBD Oil is derived from the main body of the Hemp plant and is available in multiple formats, such as full-spectrum CBD, broad-spectrum, and isolated CBD. This refers to the purity of the product and how many other hemp cannabinoids are allowed into the final product.

CBD has had a much more tumultuous history because it contains trace amounts of THC and was thus illegal at the federal level for a long period of time. Even today, Hemp Seed Oil still has more acceptance from the FDA than CBD Oil does. While many laws are currently in the process of changing, Hemp Seed Oil is a much more common sight in places like your local grocery store.

These days, CBD is hitting a sort of Renaissance period, and everything from shampoos to gummies containing the compound can be found online and in store shelves all over. This is because a large amount of preliminary science has come out regarding CBD Oil, and much of it points to this compound being incredibly effective for a huge variety of ailments.

While Hemp Seed Oil is used more as a dietary supplement, CBD Oil is used primarily for its perceived medical benefits.

Some of the possible benefits of CBD Oil include:

For a long time, the scientific community was relatively skeptical of CBD, but we have seen a huge number of studies in recent years. Those links alone should demonstrate just how versatile CBD seems to be for helping alleviate the symptoms of a wide variety of ailments. This is because CBD oil interacts with our endocannabinoid system, which plays a significant role in our physiological processes such as appetite, mood, pain-sensation, and memory.

A large portion of the scientific community believes we are only scratching the surface of what is possible with CBD oils.

Do I Want to Buy Hemp Seed Oil or CBD Oil?

Really this will come down to what you are trying to accomplish. If you are looking for an oil you can put in with your food or shakes in order to get a nice health boost; then Hemp Seed Oil is probably going to be what you are looking for. If you are looking for the product constantly in the news for its ability to regulate appetite, relieve pain, and help with sleep, you are looking for CBD Oil.

Just be wary that in some cases, CBD Oil is wrongly marketed as Hemp Oil, and you should read the labels carefully. Hemp Seed Oil will often be found sitting alongside items like fish oil and flaxseed oil. CBD Oils are typically found in specialty shops.
